Code of Conduct

Our principles and guidelines that define our standards and behavior expectations for all WG6 students

You are expected to be punctual for all lessons and form time in line with the school day. Students arriving after 9.15am, for whatever reason, are marked as absent for the entire morning session and a letter will be required from parents.

In the event of an unavoidable absence you should bring a note to explain your absence when you return to school. Unexplained absence will require us to contact your parents. You must arrange to catch up on all missed work. You are expected to complete all work set to a high standard and to hand it in on time.

You should organise your weekly study timetable to allow equal time for each subject – approximately 5 hours per subject.

If problems arise in a subject, it is your responsibility to see your subject teacher to discuss and try to solve the problems.

You are expected to act as a role model to younger students and conduct yourself in an appropriate manner. You should treat each other with respect and courtesy at all times. This is particularly important during break and lunch times when students should refrain from meeting up on the grassed areas on Common Lane.

WG6 pin badge and Lanyard must be worn at all times for safeguarding. There will be a cost to replace lost badges or cards.

You must be registered every lesson. During study periods you must register with the Student Manager – they will also have a copy of available free rooms for study purposes.

Home Study for Year 13 is by arrangement with Form Tutor, Student Manager or Learning Coordinator. You will need to be registered at 1.45pm with the Student Manager. The school reserves the right to withdraw the privilege of home study if there is any cause for concern.

All students must sign in late at reception if they arrive after 8.55am or 1.50pm. Students leaving to go home or off site must sign out at reception.

You must take pride in your appearance and adhere to the Sixth Form Dress Code Please note: Students will be sent home to change if they are inappropriately dressed

Dress Code

A dress code is important as it helps to ensure there is parity for all students and it ensures there is respect for the whole school community. Dress code and appearance of sixth formers must reflect the senior position in school and it therefore needs to be decent, safe and appropriate to a school setting. This may mean that this is very different to the choices adopted in your personal life.

Students must wear a plain, matching business tailored 2- or 3-piece suit (in colours black, navy or grey) with a collared shirt and tie or blouse or round necked top. Girls may also wear tailored matching dresses if they wish.
A matching, plain suit jacket must be worn at all times around the school site, apart from during warm weather, as directed by staff.
Shoulders and midriffs should be covered. There should be no logos.
Tailored skirts and dresses need to be of an appropriate length, just above the knee.
Plain jumpers are permitted during winter months, but the suit jacket must still be worn.
Smart footwear should be worn – no boots or trainers.
Headscarves are not allowed – except for religious reasons.
No extreme coloured hair. Extensions or dyed hair needs to be of a natural colour.
No hoodies, denim, leggings, short tight fitted skirts or strappy tops should be worn.
Make-up (including nails) and jewellery (including earrings) should be discrete. No visible body piercing or tattoos are permitted. Only clear nose studs will be permitted.
No outdoor coats or earphones to be worn inside buildings or to assemblies.
WG6 lanyard, ID badge & pin badge must be worn at all times for safeguarding

Sixth Form Expectations

This is a brief highlight of what is expected by choosing to attend an academic sixth form. It is important that you recognise that we will support you as well as challenge you to be the best version of yourself whilst developing your love of learning.
Your sixth form experience is what you make it!

High Expectations

We expect you to be aspirational, to strive to achieve your targets and goals. We will guide and support you as well but it will be vital that you understand how you can influence your own success whilst in the Sixth Form. You will need to be fully committed in terms of attendance, work ethic, behaviour, dress code, time management and personal organisational skills.

Elective

Every Year 12 student is expected to complete the Elective programme of activities on a Wednesday afternoon from the selected list. This will provide you with the chance to develop your skills in areas outside of your academic studies. This is a year long commitment.

Sixth Form Study

There will be timetabled private study sessions for Year 12 to work independently.

Working Hours

Students are expected to be in school every day from 8.45 to 3.30
(Wednesday is an exception with a 2.30pm finish)

Homework/independent study

At AS/ A2 Level you are expected to do a great deal of independent research and wider reading. You should be spending an additional 5 hours per subject per week outside of lessons on homework and additional research

Paid Work

Limit paid work to 9 hours per week and not work during the school day.

Academic Monitoring

You will receive a target grade for each subject in September. Your progress will be measured and monitored across the year

Careers

You will be supported with a dedicated careers adviser and follow a comprehensive careers education programme. A goal for your future is vital.

Work Experience

All Year 12 students must complete agreed work experience.

Study Rooms

The use of these additional facilities are a Sixth Form privilege and we expect them to be treated with respect.

Finance – Trips & Activities

The School operates a cashless payments system (Parent Pay) which is used for all trips and activities offered by the school.
Parent Pay is a highly regarded system across education and enables many useful features (such as one account for parents regardless of the number of children in different schools using Parent Pay and the ability for us to refund parents through the system where this is necessary).

Already have a Parent Pay Account?
If you already have a Parent Pay account, either with our school or another Parent Pay school, you can simply login to that account and add your other children via the Add a child tab on your home page. You will need your activation username and password (issued by the school to parents of all new students).

New to Parent Pay?
You will have a secure online account, activated using a unique activation username and password (issued by the school). You will be prompted to change these and to keep them safe and secure as your username and password for future logins.

To activate your account via the Account login area please visit Parent Pay.

Visit Parent Pay Website

Have two or more children at a Parent Pay School?
You will only need to activate one account to create your “main account” and then add your other children via the Add a child tab on your home page.

For any help about Parent Pay please refer to the Parent Pay website, Parents – FAQ’s and feel free to contact the School Finance Office if you need any further assistance. Activation letters will be issued early in the new term once students are on roll.

Canteen Purchases
Alliance in Partnership (AiP) is the FRESH FOOD caterer at both sites offering varied menus using fresh U.K. meats, fresh salads and fresh vegetables every day from our local suppliers. All meals are made on site with fresh ingredients.

A cash-less payment system is operated reducing the problems of cash in the school and encouraging healthy eating. Payment can be made online via ParentPay.

Students’ credit balance is debited each time they purchase food items from the cafeteria at breakfast, break and lunch.

Support, Mentoring & Counselling

WG6 are committed to providing opportunities and support for students to develop skills which will enable them to take responsibility for their own learning and lives. Few of us are able to work effectively when stressed or unhappy therefore we have support staff offering a mentoring service to provide support for those students who may need extra support in developing independent learning skills and maintaining their wellbeing.

Mrs Regan and Mrs Wheatley, WG6 Student Managers, offers drop-in sessions throughout the school week where students can raise concerns. Details of these sessions are advertised within the form rooms. If a specific 1-1 session is required students can access this by emailing Mrs Regan on [email protected] or Mrs Wheatley on [email protected].

We also have access to a part time Counsellor and a dedicated team of teaching staff, to advise, monitor and support students who might be struggling with the demands of ‘A’ level study. Remember that counsellors at Childline are always available and their message boards can help you to find out what other young people might have to say.

Useful information can also be found on the Know How Library, a tool on the Unifrog platform. The Know How Library is an easily searchable library of 100s of expert guides, covering every aspect of the progression process and wellbeing.

Kooth – Online Mental Health Counselling
Kooth is an online counselling and emotional well-being support service for children and young people available free at the point of use. As an early intervention solution, Kooth helps to reduce waiting times for young people seeking help while removing the stigma associated with accessing mental health support.
