It has been another busy term for Sixth Form with Year 13 preparing for their forthcoming examinations by attending and Elevate seminar on ‘The Finishing line’ and Year 12 have sat internal PPEs to understand the challenge ahead.

Year 12 have all attended a very informative Progression Evening with outside speakers to help start planning future aspirations and goals.

Year 13 Students have embarked on a variety of inventive money raising schemes to help supplement the cost of their School Prom.  Below, Ravjot and Shiona holding a bake sale in the WGSG foyer.

WGSB Welcomed student representatives from Cambridge University to deliver a talk to students on applying for, and life at, Cambridge University.  Alice Wenban, who attended WGSG, spoke about her experience, passing on personal insight and sound advice to students considering Cambridge, or indeed any university course.  This inspiring session was a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear about University life first hand from ex-students. 

At WG6 we like to create the best possible opportunities for our students. 12C chemistry group grabbed one of these opportunities with both hands and completed an Open University course as part of their independent study. The course focused on the molecular world and helped to consolidate their understanding of the foundations of chemistry as well as providing them with some more challenging concepts which are normally introduced at degree level. The students will be able to use these qualifications to support their UCAS applications next year.

As part of the Aspire program, a group of thirteen students visited Sevenoaks School to listen to a talk regarding the Oxbridge application process. The talk featured three lecturers, Dr Mark Wormald Senior Tutor at Corpus Christi College Oxford, Richard Partington, Senior Tutor and Senior Admissions Tutor at Churchill College, Cambridge and Dr Caroline Burt, Admissions Tutor at Pembroke College Cambridge. The three lecturers discussed each stage of the process including all of the factors the colleges would review before potentially making a student an offer. They also covered the infamous interview procedure as well as the Oxbridge exams- of which now must be taken for almost every course. At the end of the talk there was an opportunity to ask questions to enable clarification over certain areas including that of deferred entry and flexibility on offers. The talk ended with 'top tips' for students considering applying for Oxbridge in which they bestowed to us two pieces of advice:

1. Choose the right course for you (.. and not your parents)

2. Be Yourself

The talk was an excellent opportunity for the group and provided us with useful advice that hopefully we can use in the coming year.
